According to a study by Michigan Medicine, the number of adolescents hospitalized for severe illness caused by eating disorders increased significantly during the COVID-19 pandemic, more than doubling during the first 12 months. Among patients aged 10 to 23, Michigan Medicine documented 125 hospitalizations in 2020 compared to an average of 56 annually over the previous three years. However, these numbers only represent young people hospitalized due to severe illness, so the full impact could have been much higher. According to Michigan Resident Inpatient Files, this number continued rising, with 252 eating-disorder-related hospitalizations in 2022. Evidence-based eating disorder treatment programs are available throughout the state to provide much-needed care and support.
PsyWeb assessed Michigan’s top eating disorder treatment providers, focusing on professional accreditation, staff licensure, industry awards and client outcomes to create a list of leading options. Whether you’re seeking residential or inpatient eating disorder treatment, these facilities provide care tailored explicitly to anorexia, bulimia and other serious eating disorders.
