Kansas faces significant challenges with eating disorders impacting an estimated one in eleven residents, or about 256,000 people, within their lifetime. These numbers include a large number of young people, especially girls. In the 2019 Kansas Youth Risk Behavior Survey of high school students, more than half of the females surveyed said they ate less to lose weight, and over 45% of those surveyed (more than 60% of this number were females) reported that they were actively trying to lose weight. Nearly 30% of Kansans live in rural counties, where access to specialized care can be limited, but a growing number of telehealth and outpatient programs help bridge the gap.
PsyWeb identified leading eating disorders programs in Kansas by reviewing state-required staff licensure, professional accreditation, industry awards and patient reviews. The list below highlights options across urban and rural areas. Review these options to compare evidence-based treatment approaches and find specialized care plans to address anorexia, bulimia and other eating disorders.
