Florida faces a significant challenge in addressing eating disorders, with nearly 1.9 million residents likely to face an eating disorder at some point in their lives. According to a 2024 Harvard School of Public Health report, Florida’s yearly cost associated with eating disorders is $4.2 billion, with 3,510 emergency department visits and 1,533 inpatient hospitalizations. Nearly 1,200 young people between the ages of 12 and 18 were hospitalized due to an eating disorder, primarily anorexia nervosa and bulimia, in 2023, with prevalence increasing.
