The 2023 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System reports that 22.9% of Idaho adults have been told by a healthcare professional they have a depressive disorder, well above the 19% national average and signaling a significant public-health concern within the state. Long, gloomy winters, rural isolation and a limited psychiatric workforce in many counties intensify mood challenges. Economic swings in agriculture, forestry and mining can also pile on additional stressors for many residents. These and other pressures explain why suicide rates, often spurred by depression, remain among the top 10 leading causes of death in Idaho.
To help residents connect with effective depression support, PsyWeb examined residential and inpatient depression programs statewide to identify mental health centers that hold Idaho licensure, maintain respected accreditation and receive positive feedback from clients and mental health professionals. The resulting list of depression centers in Idaho spans comprehensive behavioral-health campuses in Boise, community facilities in Twin Falls, integrated clinics in Idaho Falls, lakeside retreats near Coeur d’Alene and mountain lodges outside Sun Valley, where cognitive behavioral therapy and medication management may be enhanced by holistic approaches, such as wilderness treks and equine therapy. Compare therapeutic styles, insurance acceptance, wait times and aftercare planning among the centers listed below to choose one that matches your needs.
