Nucleus

Typically, multipolar neurons have a single large nucleus. With only a few exceptions, the nucleus is centrally placed movement to the periphery of the perikaryon only occurs with neuronal injury. Being functionally active cells, the nucleus stains lightly due to the abundance of euchromatin. A large, prominent nucleolus is always present, although not always in the plane of section being viewed.
