Definition

Schizotypal personality disorder is primarily characterized by peculiarities of thinking, odd beliefs, and eccentricities of appearance, behavior, interpersonal style, and thought. Persons with this disorder may have peculiar like ideas: belief in psychic phenomena or have magical thinking.

ONSET:  Early adulthood and with a variety of contexts.


Diagnostic Criteria ( DSM-IV™ ) made easy.

1. Indifferent / detachment from social relationships, cognitive or perceptual distortions, and eccentric behavior. As indicated by at least five of the following:

  1. Ideas of reference.
  2. Magical thinking or odd beliefs, that not consistent with the cultures norms and influences behavior.
  3. Odd perceptual experiences.
  4. Odd thinking or speech.
  5. Suspiciousness or paranoid.
  6. Narrowed or inappropiated affect.
  7. Eccentric, odd, or peculiar behavior / appearance.
  8. Few or no close friends or confidants. Not including first-degree relatives.
  9. Excessive social anxiety.

2. Symptoms not due to another disorder.
