Psychosis

Psychosis is a non-technical term used to describe a mental state, in which contact with reality is severely impaired. Symptoms included delusions, hallucinations, and bizarre behavior. Schizophrenia, manic, and delusional depression can produce psychosis. Psychosis can be chronic and lifelong, as in schizophrenia or it may be acute and temporary, as in a reaction to extreme stress.
